Barriers are extremely dangerous defensive devices that appear in Catacomb Armageddon and Catacomb Apocalypse

In Catacomb Armageddon[edit]

Approach at your peril!

Developed by Nemesis's minions, both as a security device to keep would-be heroes out, and to keep dangerous monsters in, these devious devices generate powerful electrical shocks. In addition to preventing enemies from moving past, a Barrier can also inflict terrifying damage on the player if they try to bypass it, bringing low even a player at 100% health in a little over a second! They can be identified from afar by the arcs of energy jumping between the emitter posts.

Fortunately, Barriers are not indestructible; they can be taken down by firing on them repeatedly with Magick Missiles or firing off spell orbs at one. A barrier has the equivalent of 20 hit points, and goes down permanently once destroyed. They first appear in The Demon Hold.
